Creating a media kit and rate card

Alright alright alright… how are we all today?

Now this post won’t be for everyone because obvs not everyone who reads my blog is a blogger themselves but this post is going to be a little bit of a ‘How To.’

A post explaining how to create a media kit and rate card for your blog.

So firstly, what in the hell is a media kit you may ask?!

A media kit, a rate card, are they the same thing and what do the actually do? Well good question…

*Spoiler* yes they are indeed the same thing and in short it’s a document you send across to PRs and marketing teams for potential collaborations and sponsorship opportunities.

It basically carries all of your stats and audience demographics along with your rates/fees. It’s a super useful thing to have because for one, it kinda makes you look like you actually know what you’re doing and two, it just makes it a whole lot easier whenever a brand or company reaches out to you. It saves typing everything out each time, by instead sending a nicely curated document with all the ‘need-to-know’ info on it.

So how to actually create said document? Well for me it’s basically a C.V for your blog so it should be neat, tidy and easy to navigate. It shouldn’t be too long, a page will do (including some imagery to showcase your blogging style) A4 in size and exported into a PDF format for ease.

I made mine in a word document before exporting to PDF and it was so so simple to create!

I’m sure everyone is different but for mine, the page is split into quarters, the first quarter taken up my my ‘main image’ – a picture I think represents my blog, me, my personality and my style. Below this I have the Little Miss Winney logo followed by a blurb of sorts. A small paragraph introducing myself and my blog.

I explain the topics I cover, the brands I’ve previously collaborated with and the demographic of my readers. Then underneath this come the stats, I list all my social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and Youtube) along with my blog stats, for each of the socail platforms I write the numbers of followers and for the blog I write the average hits/views each post recievces.

Finally I finish with my fees. I list the three packages I offer – the cost of a single social media post, the cost of a full blog post and the cost of both combined. Under that I briefly explain what is included, that the brand is able to send over any key messages they wish to be included, can choose the publish date, add up to three links of their choice and can preview all content before it goes live. I also explain that ALL paid content will be declared as an #ad across all channels.

I then finish with my email address and contact details with pictures from my Instagram feed running below to add another preview of my photography and blog style.

And that is that, it took be about 20 minutes to put together and was really easy. So if you are a blogger or any kind of influencer for that matter, this is definitely something you could benefit from when the time comes for you to monetise your blog and collaborate with brands.

I hope you found this helpful, I get asked so much about how to start a blog and how to begin earning money from blogging so I do intend to write more ‘How To’ guides sharing my tips and tricks. If there’s anything you’d like to know more about and want me to cover in depth then please do let me know in the comments below and also if you are a fellow blogger leave your links so I can check you out!

Ooh thank you for this! Ngl, I had no idea what a media kit/rate card actually was so this was very helpful! I'd love to start getting into blogging more and making it a serious venture – do you use any affiliate links or anything or just working with brands?JosieVictoriaa // Fashion, Travel & Lifestyle

Hi Josie, thank you so much for your comment! It means such a lot to know that someone actually finds the post useful haha. At the minute I just work with brands although I've recently joined an affiliate scheme so hopefully more of that will follow on. Good luck with your blog (I had a peek and its looks lovely, great content too) Hope you visit my blog again soon xxx

So helpful, thank you! Just wondering, what kind of following did you have when you started reaching out to brands to collaborate?

      Hi Sheila,

Thanks so much for reading, I’m glad you foundit helpful! I think I got my first collaboration at about 10,000 Instagram followers however that was when influencer marketing wasn’t really a thing. I know lots of bloggers with around 5k who work with brands. Its a case of trying, reaching out and waiting to see what happens. The worst they can say is no. Good luck!
