How taking time out can improve both productivity and creativity

So for me two weeks is a long time to have not written a blog post, what can I say? Life got in the way and I had to make a decision to either push out some half-hearted /non passionate post or to just give myself a break and come back to it when I felt ready. Well, I went with the latter and my goodness don’t I feel better for it!

The last two weeks have been filled with friends, fun and of course…food. It’s exactly what I needed, a little break in order to get my creative juices flowing again to create great content for you guys to read and enjoy.

Towards the middle of last month, I completely burnt myself out. I was doing too many things at once and trying to please way too many people. I was exhausted and something just had to give. This happens at least twice a year and every time I have this moment of realisation that – not only am I suffering, but so is my work. I find myself staring at a blank screen, fingers resting on the keyboard with me willing them to write something witty or least of all interesting, but nothing comes out. Writers block. It’s something I get when my mind is simply too full and seeminly has no space for any new ideas. So I knew it was time to sit back, press pause and just take a couple of weeks to enjoy myself. And my oh my what a couple of weeks it turned out to be!

First up for those of you that didn’t know, I had made it into the top 10 for best fashion and beauty blogger at the 2016 UK Blog Awards. Just making it that far was something I was immensely proud of! Last week at the award ceremony and finalists ball it was revealed I’d made the top 3, recieving the ‘highly commedned award.’ To say I was shocked is a huge understatement! I was and still am, absolutely thrilled and partied the night away along with my fellow nominees and countless bottle of prosecco.

The rest of the time I used my mini-break to catch up with my beautiful friends. Going to cool bars, heading out for brunch, seeing cabarets and concerts, you name it I did it and honestly its made me feel so much better. My head is now bursting with ideas for the blog and even potentially a youtube channel (watch this space.)

It just goes to show that sometimes, in order to get work done you need to take a break from it, clear your head, then come back guns blazing and ready to go!

I know this type of getting worn out. Back home (Perú) at the faculty, as a journalist I had periods of some uncreative guilt and just blank spaces. Now I can add the exhaustation as a mother and the society preassure about being as much as you can with your kids or at all times (but not thinking quality over quantity) this makes you at times unconsiderate wtih yourself. So I try to take some time by myself to reload and to charge my fuel. Usually once or twice per year I travel far and I comeback feeling better than ever! Food is very conforting too and so is sleep lol
