Merry Christmas!

He came, Santa came!
After weeks off excitement, the big day is finally here and my goodness its been a great one. I'm extra excited as I'm writing this blog post on my brand new Macbook Pro....eek!
Christmas really is my favourite time of year, I just love it and get all warm and fuzzy inside - full of festive spirit.
I'm very lucky and so grateful to have received some beautiful gifts from family and friends.
I'm like a child come christmas morning and run into Mum's bedroom (stocking in hand) at around 6am eager to start the day. We open our stocking presents in bed then off to the lounge to see 'if he's been.' The rest of the morning is spent unwrapping, drinking bucks fizz and eating breakfast.
Then the main event...CHRISTMAS DINNER!
Literally I start fantasising about christmas dinner from around October. The turkey, the stuffing balls, the pigs in blankets. If I could eat it every day I totally would. My mum is like a machine in the kitchen, cooking up a storm...I set the table.
A quick Christmas toast and bon appétit.
Complete and utter food coma.
After dinner my Mum and I watch the Queen's speech and then tend to fall asleep watching a christmas movie.
The evening friends and family come around. Alcohol, games and in our house a lot of singing!
I hope you have all had the most wonderful, magical Christmas and got anything you wished for.
From me and mine to you and yours, Merry Christmas!

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree

Finally, I'm home for Christmas and I couldn't be happier!
Of course the first thing I did when getting in the house was run to the living room to see the tree.
Now I can be quite picky when it comes to Christmas trees, we always have a real one (I love the smell) and I love them to be big and full...this years is perfect!
Ah - I was made up when I saw it, twinkling away. You see unlike most Christmas trees, the Winney tree (like the Winney's themselves) is a bit quirky.
Although I love seeing perfectly decorated, matching baubles, esthetically pleasing trees....that's just not our style.
All of our baubles and ornaments have a story behind them, we've collected them from around the world and we adore anything that's individual and a bit crazy. I've pictured a few of my favourites, I hope you love them as much as I do!
Along side the weird and wonderful we each have our own personalised bauble, here's mums...

Now onto some that have come from further afield...
1965 commemorative space walk, Kennedy space centre - Florida
Heidi at Christmas - Sweden
Festive shrimp, Bubba Gump - NYC
Bal de Moulin Rouge bauble - Paris
Skippy at Christmas - Brisbane Australia
Standing guard - London
Babushka doll - Russia
Papá Noel - Mexico
The next two, the kettle and the cottage are very special. They originally belonged to my Great Grandma Annie and have been safely stored away each year. They are over 100 years old.
And finally, what family tree is complete without a homemade decoration? My mum bless her, kept my very first attempt, I used a cut up egg box, I was 3.
Merry Christmas!

'We must let go of the life we have planned...to accept the one that is waiting for us' - Joseph Campbell

Life is hard eh?
It's something I've been saying a lot recently, which is pretty ridiculous considering how lucky I am to live the life I do. But nonetheless I often find myself struggling.
Am I making the right decisions? Am I making these decisions for myself, or for someone else? Am I doing the right thing, the wrong thing, who knows?
If like me you are someone who planned how their life was going to turn out when you were 5 (having no real concept of how real life actually works) then you may find it difficult to let go and just allow things to happen naturally.
I'm the worst for it and can be very hard on myself if I'm not where I think I should be in certain aspects of my life. I expect a lot from myself both professionally and personally and get very frustrated if I can't deliver.
So I'm going to attempt...ATTEMPT to take a breath, live life and see where it goes.
Perhaps it'll be better than what I'd planned in the first place. Only time will tell.

Countdown to Christmas

Its five days until Christmas. I repeat it is five days until Christmas!
Now if there is one thing I love as much as Christmas, it's the build up to Christmas! The dinners, the drinks, the party frocks and that last minute rush to see all of your nearest and dearest before the big day itself. This year proved no different and the week before I leave the big smoke and head back home to the coast, I find my diary choc-a-bloc with cocktail appointments (It's a tough job but someone's got to do it.) On Tuesday it was catchup time with my beautiful friend Izzy T. Having not seen each other in a few weeks (which is rare) we had so much to chat about we headed straight to a cocktail bar...obviously.
Having met Iz at her office in Leicester Square, we decided to head into Soho and the beautiful Kingly Court. If you haven't ventured to Kingly Court before I urge you to go, especially at Christmas time. It's a hidden square in the centre of Soho packed with bars, restaurants and shops. Protected from the rain by a big circus like tent over head, you are left to enjoy the beautiful array of fairy lights twinkling around you.
We decided to take a seat and order cocktails at 'The Wright Brothers' a restaurant mainly known for its seafood but I'd heard on the down low that they did cracking cocktails. Oh how I heard right!
Having browsed the menu, spotting at least five or six we'd like to try we went ahead and ordered...
Round 1
Izzy went for - 'MANDA'S ELIXIR'
Portobello Road gin, peach, passion fruit, apple juice, lemon juice & basil.

I chose - 'BLOOD ORANGE BLOSSOM'
Belenkaya vodka, blood orange, sugar & lemon juice.
Both drinks went down very well, so well we decided to order another...well it is Christmas. Out came the menus and it was decision time again.
Round 2
Izzy went for - 'JASMINE PEARL'
Tanqueray gin, jasmine syrup, elderflower cordial, lime juice & Fentimans Victorian Lemonade.

I chose - 'PETROSILIUM'
Portobello Road gin, Luxardo Maraschino, cucumber juice, parsley, lime juice & sugar.
As we finished off the final sips of our cocktails we had already spotted several restaurants we were eager to come back and try. But for now it was time to to depart.
Kingly Court really is a great place to get festive and catch up with friends!
All that was left to do was a quick twirl in my layered up outfit.
Hat - River Island, Dress - & Other Stories, Jumper - H&M, Jacket - Topshop, Bag c/o - Paul's Boutique, Glasses c/o - London retro via Glasses Direct, Tights - M&S, Shoes - Urban Outfitters

'We cultivate love when we allow our most vulnerable and powerful selves to be deeply seen and known' - BrenÉ Brown

For those of you that are super observant, you may have noticed a little change to my navigation bar up top. The once 'Lifestyle' tab is now simply 'Life.'
Why you ask? Well, I wanted somewhere to write about everything, life, thoughts, feelings...I'm already freaking out just writing this!
You see, I'm a very private person when it comes to my personal life. In all honesty I'm the type that tends to bottle everything up and let it slowly eat away at me. I don't often show my emotions and very, very few people have seen me in that kind of 'vulnerable' state.
However now, at the grand old age of 25 I've decided to try and let it out a bit more. So I'm going to use this part of my blog to ask questions, share thoughts and sometimes just go ahead and have a good old rant. This of course will be mixed in with all my usual event, food and travel posts.
Think of it as a little extra, an insight into my life and my thoughts...some of which can be pretty crazy!

Dare to Bare this Christmas

Coat - H&M, Dress - H&M, Shoes - French Connection, Bag - Chanel

As the temperatures plumet and the christmas parties get into full swing, I'm often left with a dilema. Do I dare to bare in this cold weather and freeze in the process, or do I cover up head to toe and dress for comfort rather than style?
Now obviously as a fashion and beauty blogger, I tend to always opt for style over anything else. This Christmas however I'll be making the best of both worlds thanks to these amazing party pieces from H&M!

As I'm sure you've gathered by now, I'm a sucker for a statement coat and this big ball of fuzz is like getting a hug from a giant teddy bear everytime you put it on. It's warm, it's cuddly and it's stylish, it's basically the perfect winter warmer and certain to go down a storm when you make your grand entrance at the christmas party!

I teamed it up with this rather glitzy body-con dress. The long sleeves and high neck help me balance out my decision to brave the winter cold and get my legs out for the night.
Finishing my look with some killer faux snakeskin heels from French Connection and a classic Chanel bag, I'd say I am pretty much in christmas party look heaven!

Crabtree&Evelyn - Evelyn Rose Hand Therapy

Crabtree & Evelyn are my ultimate luxury hand cream brand, there's just something about the (surprisingly young - launched in 1972) family-run business that just leaves me pining for their latest realise. Well that, and the fact their stores smell like heaven.

I'd heard a lot about their hand creams and I've been trialing one now for the past 2 months, and I absolutely love it. Although I have a few of the different scents from the hand therapy collection, my favourite by far is the Evelyn Rose.

'Uniquely fragranced by Evelyn Rose petals and peach nectar, surrounded by an elegant jasmine and violet accord with accents of bergamot and sensuous amber.'

The smell is so beautiful and fresh and the hand cream itself leaves my skin soft, nourished and feeling great. It's £15 for a big 100g tube. To me I think that's super reasonable especially if like me you get dry hands that need a bit of TLC every once in a while. I've noticed a huge difference since using it, I apply each morning before I go out and each evening before bed, one little squeeze is enough. It will last you a long time, money well spent if you ask me.

Party Season Prepped

With Christmas fast approaching the party invitations are coming in thick and fast so I thought I'd show you guys the kind of party attire I'm loving right now.
Now for me anything that sparkles get a giant tick and this jumpsuit from H&M gives me the perfect amount of glitter without being to OTT. I love jumpsuits as an alternative to dresses and skirts come party season and this one fits like a glove.

Taking the sparkle up another notch are these limited edition Red or Dead frames exclusively available from Specsavers. The cat-eye shape, the diamontes, this is the season where more is more and these glasses are the sassiest around!
I teamed the jumpsuit with a leather jacket and clutch, adding some seriously impressive silver nail varnish from Ted Baker and silver jewellery to complete the look.

So there we have it, my first Christmas party outfit sorted, hope you enjoyed! Stay tuned for more party wear Inspo soon.

The Lipstick Diaries - Nyx Cosmetics Butter Lipstick

Nyx Cosmetics is one of those brands that just keeps on giving!
I'm always surprised by the high quality of the products considering the affordable prices they are sold at.

My latest purchase was one of their Butter Lipsticks. With 22 shades to choose from, I went for 'Pops Explosif.'
I'd describe it as a hybrid, a cross between a balm and a lipstick. It has the pigment of a lippy but the texture of a balm, giving your lips some serious hydration. It glides on super smooth and lasts for a good couple of hours before you need to re-apply.

For me this combination lipstick is perfect. In the colder months my lips tend to get dry and so I'm constantly covering then with lip balm to keep them moisturised, with the lip butter I can do that whilst still supporting a strong colour, without which I'd feel naked!

At £5.50 I think I'll be bagging all 22 shades before to long!
